29 May, 16:00 - 18:30: Visit Saltstraumen (the strongest tidal current in the world) by RIB

Bodø is home to Saltstraumen, the strongest tidal current in the world! A narrow strait, an underwater threshold and the moon create movements in the water. A RIB-safari from Bodø to Saltstraumen is the number one thing to do in Bodø!

Four times a day, the tide pushes more than 400 million m3 through the 150-meter narrow strait of Saltstraumen. The water reaches a tremendous speed, creating incredible vortexes! These vortexes may be as large as 10 meters wide and 5 meters deep. We take you there but keep a safe distance!

You travel through breathtaking scenery and will be in close contact with the elements. You can learn about our proud coastal heritage and strong dependency on the sea, scout for sea eagles and porpoises, and admire the Caledonian mountains.

The area's narrow straits and steep mountains create good conditions for the White-Tailed Sea Eagle. The sea eagle is the largest bird of prey in Europe, with a wingspan of up to 2.5m! Bodø is home to the world's largest population of sea eagles, and you are very likely to meet one of these majestic birds along your journey.
